What is the REAL cause of your pain?

Last week we had a client who came to see us for some nagging knee pain. He didn’t know what had happened to cause it, but the pain was not going away. We checked out his knee, his leg, and his foot, but did not see anything that would be causing the pain he had been experiencing for three years. But we were not going to give up. We wanted to get to the root of the problem and get him back to doing what he loved.

He then told us that he had been feeling some tightness in his back as well, so we decided to do a little investigating. After a quick test on his back, his knee immediately felt better! However, when he showed us the stretches he’d been doing, the pain in his knee came back. All of the stretching that he had been doing prior to seeing us was actually doing more harm than good.

So, it became pretty obvious to us that this client did not have a knee problem, he had a back problem! And, if he had never come in to see a specialty therapist who could diagnose the real cause of his pain, he would still be doing those stretches and making his pain even worse – limiting major areas of his life, like football and sports, because of his pain.

Now, maybe your knee doesn’t hurt. But maybe your shoulder or neck or heel does. Or maybe you’ve just had some general muscle tension that won’t go away. Maybe you’ve tried everything under the sun to get rid of your pain but it won’t go away. This doesn’t mean you’re stuck to living with a life of pain forever. It just means you don’t know exactly what is causing your pain. That’s why it’s important to see a physical therapist as a part of your healthcare team. We are trained to examine and treat the whole person – not just the knee or the shoulder or the neck. And here at Actify, we are 100% committed to finding the root cause of your pain and treating it accordingly.
